Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town – Hermanus – Southern Most Tip of Africa – Cape Agulhas
Stop At: Betty’s Bay
We leave Cape Town and eventually take the R44 and drive on the edge of the sea past the beaches. Along this route you will encounter dramatic coastlines and beaches, fynbos biosphere, baboons, monkeys, birding and hiking. We go past The Strand and Gordons Bay. Our first stop is at Betty’s Bay to view a colony of endangered African penguins.

Stop at: Hermanus
We continue our tour from Betty’s Bay driving towards Hermanus. We could make brief stops along the way. We then arrive in Hermanus one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Africa – famous for having the best whale watching in the world. If you are into canoeing, the Kleinrivier vlei is one of the best places in SA and is only 6 km outside Hermanus towards Gansbaai. Other activities include sand boarding, quad biking and fly fishing. Hermanus also has the most comprehensive collection of internationally acclaimed wines, the red and white wines, found in the largest wine shop in SA in the Wine Village on the corner of R43 and R320 en-route to N2.

We drive through Agulhas National Park en route to the Southern Most tip of Africa

Day 2: Cape Agulhas – Swellendam – Mossel Bay – George
Stop at: Swellendam
We leave Cape Agulhas at around 8:00am the next morning driving through and stopping at Swellendam. Regarded as South Africa’s third-oldest town, Swellendam contains over 50 provincial heritage sites and well-preserved examples of Cape Dutch architecture. The town owes its existence to the Khoi people–nomadic pastoralists who helped the Dutch build trade posts and develop a mercantile industry. There is a lot for us to see as we make a brief 45 minute stop over.

Stop at: Mossel Bay
From Swellendam we travel back along the coast, meadering through some beautiful scenery on our way towards Mossel Bay. Indalu Game reserve is located next to the N2 en-route to Mossel Bay. We go into this farm to view some game including elephants. The cherry on top here is the elephant interaction. Here you get a chance to feed and touch their elephants. This is one of the most amazing experiences.

Day 3: George – Knysna – Plettenberg Bay
Stop at: Knysna
We start off from George and head off to Knysna. We spend some of the morning in Knysna. Knysna offers shopping opportunities of unusual locally made art and craft, etc. We stop over for lunch as convenient

Stop at: Knysna Heads
On the edge of the Knysna Lagoon with its entrance to the sea are two promontories known as the ‘Heads’. The area also falls within a National Park proclaimed to conserve the extraordinary natural beauty of the Lakeland and adjacent indigenous forests.

Stop at: Wilderness National Park
From Knaysna we continue eastwards towards Plettenberg Bay. This stretch from George to Plettenberg Bay has some of the most magical views on the Garden Route which include the Wilderness National Park and many scenic viewpoints along the way.

Stop at: Outeniqua Pass
We also travel over the Outeniqua Mountains from the Little Karoo. We continue until we reach Plettenberg Bay for the night.
Day 4: Plettenberg Bay – Tsitsikama National Park – Port Elizabeth
Stop at: Plettenberg Beach
The morning can start with a tour of Plettenberg Bay – the sanctuary, the beaches, and other ares of interest before departing on our way to Tsitsikama National Park.

Stop at: Tsitsikamma National Park
Our next stop is at Tsitsikamma National Park area. We make a stop over and enter the game drive in search of the big 5 and we are very likely to see any of the following – elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, zebra, rhino, giraffe, kudu, etc…..

Stop at: Storms River
At Tsitsikama, the Stormsriver Mouth rest camp of the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park is very scenic and a must-visit. A number of short hiking trails (2-6km) allow you to explore the coastal bush and rocky shoreline. Storms River Mouth offers the visitor magnificent scenery, a small beach, restaurant and shop. We stop over for lunch as convenient.

Stop at: Storms River Suspension Bridge
The famous Storms River Suspension Bridge spans the river mouth and this walk is the most popular. Here you can do a relatively relaxing walk/hike to the suspension bridge stretching over the mouth of the Storms River. We now travel to The Bloukrans Bridge, 216 meters (709 feet) above the Bloukrans River. The Bloukrans Bungee is the world’s highest commercial bungee bridge and is the highest commercial natural bungee jump in the world!

Day 5: Port Elizabeth – East London – Cintsa
Stop At: Kings Beach
We start off by touring port Elizabeth. Exploring the world class beaches and other areas of interest.

Stop at: East London
Our tour then takes us to the capital of the Sunshine Coast – East London. If you’re into art, culture and architecture, we will visit Fort Glamorgan which was erected on the banks of the Buffalo River in 1848 to guard the supply line to King Williams Town. We explore Xhosa culture and cuisine at Khaya la Bantu Cultural Village. The 19m tall Hood Point Lighthouse is also worth a visit.

Stop at: Cintsa Beach
from East London we head off to our final destination of the day Cintsa for a relaxed afternoon where we could do a lot of optional activities.

Day 6 Cintsa – Mazeppa Bay – Coffee Bay – Port Saint Johns
Stop at: Kei Mouth
We drive from Cintsa to Mazeppa Bay. We go over a few scenic passes, as well as the Great Kei Bridge.

We stop over at Mazeppa Bay for a brief tour
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop at: Coffee Bay
From Mazeppa Bay we continue until we get to Idutshwa and proceed further on to our next stop en route at Coffee Bay, also for a brief tour.

Stop at: Hole in the Wall
At Coffee Bay we visit the spectacular Hole in the Wall. We then continue our tour driving via the scenic rolling hills.

Stop at: Wild Coast
From Coffee Bay we continue our journey until we arrive at Port St Johns where we spend the night. Known as the ‘jewel of the Wild Coast’, it’s hardly surprising that Port St. Johns is filled with incredible experiences just waiting to be discovered. Firstly, there are the three beaches which are perfect for long walks, games and soaking up the sun. The area also boasts numerous hiking trails and with the help of local tour guides, you can gain first-hand experience of the Xhosa culture and customs.

Day 7 Port Saint Johns – Port Edward – Durban
Stop at: Wild Coast
We continue our tour of the Wild Coast as we depart from Port St Johns en route to Port Edward. This stretch sees us passing through some rural villages and larger towns, such as Lusisiki, Flagstaff and Bizana. This is a beautiful drive.

Port Edward has many areas of attraction such as the Red Desert, the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve, and more.

Stop at: Port Shepstone
From Port Edward as we head to our final destination, the road will take us through a variety of popular beach resorts on the R61 road, including South Broom, Uvongo, Shelley Beach, Port Shepstorne, Ifafa, Scottburgh, Umkomaas and Amanzimtoti as we hit Durban.
